Lindapter Hollo Bolts for Blind Steel Connections

Lindapter Hollo Bolts are expansion fasteners developed for connecting structural steel to hollow sections where the reverse side cannot be reached. Unlike standard bolts, which require access to both sides of the connection, hollo bolts can be installed entirely from one side.

Installation involves inserting the fastener into correctly sized, pre-drilled holes and tightening it to the specified torque. As the bolt is tightened, the internal sleeve expands inside the hollow section to form a secure connection. This can reduce installation time and avoid welding or through-bolting in suitable applications.

ReFast supplies hexagonal, countersunk and flush-fit options to suit different structural and finish requirements. Lindapter Hollo Bolts are used across steel-framed buildings, handrails, stairs, balconies, plant structures, equipment supports and infrastructure projects. Product selection should always consider steel thickness, loading, hole size, head style, corrosion exposure and the engineer's design requirements.

FAQS

What is a Lindapter Hollo-Bolt?

A Lindapter Hollo-Bolt is an expansion fastener used to connect structural steel to hollow steel sections where only one side can be accessed. It is inserted into a pre-drilled hole and tightened so the sleeve expands inside the section, forming the connection.

Do Hollo Bolts require access from both sides?

No. One of the main advantages of hollo bolts is that installation requires access from only one side of the structural hollow section. This makes them useful for closed steel sections where a standard nut cannot be positioned behind the connection.

Do Hollo Bolts require drilling?

The steelwork must contain correctly sized pre-drilled holes before installation. However, no access hole is required on the opposite side of the hollow section. Always follow the relevant Lindapter installation guide for hole dimensions, grip range and tightening torque.

What is the difference between hexagonal, countersunk and flush-fit Hollo Bolts?

Hexagonal-head products provide a conventional exposed bolt head. Countersunk heads reduce surface projection for a cleaner architectural finish. Flush-fit heads are designed to provide a flat finished surface where protruding hardware is unsuitable.

Can Lindapter Hollo Bolts replace welding?

They can provide an alternative to welding in many suitable structural hollow-section connections, helping reduce hot works and installation time. However, the connection must be designed or approved for the required loads, steel thickness and service conditions by the responsible engineer.

Can Hollo Bolts carry tension and shear loads?

Lindapter Hollo Bolts are designed for structural connections and have published resistance data for tension and shear. Capacity depends on the fastener size, steel section, grip range and connection design, so verified manufacturer data must be used for specification.

Which Hollo-Bolt finish should I choose?

The correct finish depends on environmental exposure. Zinc-plated or coated carbon steel may suit standard environments, while hot-dip galvanised or stainless steel options provide greater corrosion protection for outdoor, coastal or demanding industrial locations.
